Established in 1998 by the Vastapane family, Buffaloland is a privately owned game farm that is dedicated to preserving Africa’s natural legacy while ensuring an exclusive African experience.
Located just a stone’s throw away from the Kruger National Park, Buffaloland is perfectly placed to discover the Big 5, while a number of unique attractions in the area offer a selection of unforgettable experiences. Of course, with an impressive array of wildlife in Buffaloland itself, staying close to home offers its own reward as you relax by the teeming watering holes or enjoy an exciting game drive.
Whether you choose to travel by road or air, getting to Buffaloland is easy. Hoedspruit, in the eastern reaches of Limpopo, is your gateway to the heart of Africa with its excellent roads and scheduled and chartered flights from Cape Town and Johannesburg coming in to Eastgate Airport every day.

Game drives
Up close & personal
Early morning or late afternoon game drives is a wonderful experience for all. Request a game drive with one of our rangers who will be happy to take you and your group, in an open vehicle to take in all that Buffaloland has to offer.
Home to the Big Four, including buffalo, rhino, leopard and lion, Buffaloland also boasts hyena, zebra, giraffe, kudu, blue wildebeest, impala, warthog, nyala, waterbuck and many other smaller species such as duiker, meerkat, steenbok and more making for an unforgettable African safari.
The hidden treasure of Buffaloland of course, are our rare white lions. Discovered in 1975 when two tiny “white” lion cubs were born in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve nearby, their arrival caused a stir. Creamy white with either golden or blue eyes, the whiteness is caused by a recessive gene and is not albino-ism. Sadly, the last free-roaming white lion was killed in 1993, but the gene is still seen in the area as very pale golden lions roam the territory. There is always great excitement, however, when a pale lioness is pregnant and the cubs are eagerly awaited.

A photographer’s dream
In birding terms, South Africa is a must for both the avid world lister and the leisure birder. Buffaloland, in particular, makes for an especially exciting photographic safari destination with more than 350 different species of birds, including the Lappet-faced Vulture, Martial Eagle, Saddle billed Stork, Kori Bustard and Southern Ground Hornbill making their homes in the natural savannah grasslands.
With the Klaserie River flowing through the farm, we are privileged to attract an abundance of birdlife to this life-giving water source and a number of photographic hides provide a unique opportunity to get that perfect shot. In fact, the bird photography seen in this brochure was shot by Philippe Vastapane (the owner), an avid twitcher and bird photographer himself.
Designed with your particular interests in mind, our birding and photographic safaris are lead by our highly experienced guides who promise sought after endemic sightings and fascinating local observations about the birds and their habitats.
